Thick & Cozy Hat and Cowl Set

I made this lovely set for my lovely cousin as a Christmas present this year.  She’s 11, and it was so exciting for me to get to make something for a girl for a change!

Messy bun hats/ponytail hats are SO popular right now.  You can’t go anywhere without seeing them online.  I personally don’t have enough hair for even a little ponytail as I chopped it off last year, but I really wanted to try making one of these.

I used Loops and Threads Cozy Wool yarn for this as I had some at home in the colour Velvet and thought it would be perfect.  To be honest, I kind of made of the pattern as I went along because I couldn’t find one I liked that used thicker yarn.  I used the polar bear hat pattern by Sarah at Repeat Crafter Me, but instead of starting with a magic ring, I started with 20 sc around a hair elastic.  Starting at row 9, I did the dcs in the front and back post to create the ribbed edge.

The cowl is a pattern by Rebecca over at Little Monkey’s Crochet.  I love all  of her unique scarf and cowl patterns.  I purchased the e-book a few years ago and it’s always a go to when I want to make new items.  This cowl is so plush and squishy, I love how it lays when you wear it.

I added some nice big purple buttons for accents and some leather tags (custom made by Brick Bubble) with my logo on it for some finishing touches.

Have you made a messy bun/ponytail hat yet?  🙂

You can check out more of hats here and scarves and cowls here.

I loved making this set so much, I’ve made them available for purchase in my Etsy shop!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year!
