Chunky Patio Throw

IMG_5551Hello everyone! Happy summer. 🙂 It’s been a little too long since I’ve done a blog post.  We have been working quite hard at home to get our back yard ready for the summer and I haven’t really had a lot of spare time for much else.  But good news!  We are almost settled in and I’ve had time to get back into some exciting projects I’ve been looking forward to working on.

Which brings me to this beauty blanket!  I made this after we got our out door set for the back yard because it gets a little chilly in the evening sometimes.  It’s a huge and heavy chunky blanket made from super thick and plush yarn.  It’s heavy but I love it!

A while back I picked up quite a few skeins of Loops & Threads Ginormous Yarn at Michaels when it was on clearance and just had it lying around for a while.  I wanted something big and thick that would work up quickly, which led me to this 5 1/2 hour throw pattern* from Lion Brand.  It just consists of rows of V stitches then has some tassels added to the bottom. Simple!

*The original pattern uses 3 strands of chunky yarn together, but I used just 1 strand of this yarn and my big 15.75 mm Q-hook by the Crochet Dude.

I love the texture and look of the v-stitches as they build up.  Not to mention this yarn is super plush and soft.  I believe the whole blanket has about 5-6 skeins of Loops and Threads Ginormous.  You could also use Loops & Threads Biggie with a larger hook for a bigger feel.  I found that the Biggie yarn is 2 strands of Ginormous yarn twisted together so it has double the thickness.

We love having this blanket for night time looking up at the stars from our back patio.  Even though it’s not really “blanket” weather this time of year, you can always find an excuse to make a nice throw!

I hope you enjoyed and you can check out more blankets I’ve made here.
