Hello everyone! Meet Kiko, the Chinese New Year Monkey! Isn’t he the cutest!?
I love this little guy. Every year, Stephanie Lou from All About Ami designs her own Amigurumi pattern for the Chinese New Year. This year of course is the year of the monkey, so she designed Kiko. I thought he was so cute with his giant head and rosy cheeks, so I made him for my son.
The original FREE pattern (which can be found here) is designed with thinner yarn, but for this one I used worsted weight and a bigger hook which made him a little bigger. He stand about 7 inches tall.
The yarn I used for this project is Loops & Threads Impeccable in Aran for his face, Red Heart Super Saver in Buff for the perimeter of his face and his hands and feet, then finally Loops & Threads Impeccable in Soft Taupe for his head body and tail. The banana I made using Red Heart Soft in Yellow with medium brown embroidery floss.
Stephanie’s patterns are very easy to follow and she always has a lot of pictures to help. I love seeing all the cute things she creates. You can check out all of her Amigurumi and other patterns on her blog All About Ami. I’ve been trying to hunt down a copy of the new Crochet It, Learn it, Love it book so that I can get started on her new Finnley the Fox pattern.
If you’d your own Kiko the monkey or are interested in purchasing any items from All About Ami, head over to my Etsy shop to check out what I have in stock. I am open to custom orders as well! 🙂
