Cat Hat and Paw Mittens

Meow! After completing this project I realized I might have a slight obsession with cats.

I saw the pattern for this adorable hat over at Persia Lou and loved it right away.  I knew just the yarn I was going to use too!  Remember the Triple Loop Infinity Scarf I made last year?  The one I re-did because it just didn’t sit quite right?  Well I still didn’t like it after I re-did it, so voila!  I made it into a hat and mitten set instead.

I am so glad I discovered Persia Lou.  She had a lot of really cute designs and I even made the shirt she is wearing in the pattern post (I couldn’t resist – due to.. the cat obsession).

The mitten pattern came from Oombawka Designs which has a really good and easy to follow tutorial with lots of pictures.  Because of the thick yarn, they work up very quickly.

I’ve always loved this yarn color.  I used Lion Brand’s Wool Ease Thick & Quick in the color “Blackstone”.  It’s black but had red, pink, purple and blue mixed in. I think it goes really well with the little paw prints sewn on. For that I used Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice in the color “Pink”.  I didn’t follow a pattern for the paws really, I just made circles until they were as big as I wanted them.  I have listed my pattern below.  They are worked in a continuous round.

Big circle:

Make a magic ring, 6 sc in ring (6 sc)

-2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

-2 sc in first stitch, 1 in next, repeat around (18 sc)

-2 sc in first stitch, 1 in next 2, repeat around (24 sc)

-2 sc in first stitch, 1 in next 3, repeat around (30 sc)

-2 sc in first stitch, 1 in next 4, repeat around (36 sc)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing onto mitten.

Small circles (make 3):

Make a magic ring, 6 sc in ring (6 sc)

-2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing onto mitten.

I just laid my circles out until I was satisfied with how they looked and that’s that!  Thanks for reading 🙂
